Everybody
loves food! But usually, the vegetables are always pushed to the side of the
plate while the ‘junk is consumed with enthusiastic relish! What if we could
make the veggies more interesting?
Well, that
was exactly what was done by the Chefs of Good Shepherd Finishing School, Mr.
Udayasankar Shadananan and Mr. Gilson Mathew when they conducted a workshop on
Vegetable Carving.
The workshop
was conducted in two batches. By the end of the 4 hour workshop, the chefs had
taught the 9-month students to carve out things ranging from miniature roses to
true works of art like a couple dancing. The students were all immensely
fascinated, so much so that they helped themselves to vegetables and fruits –
carrots, beets, sprigs of rosemary and coriander,Onions, apples, lemons,
watermelons and even pumpkins!
While the
training kitchen was filled with the smell of fresh vegetables, the students
exclaimed their joy over each new ‘art piece’ that they created. The workshop
resulted in the creation of various pieces of art such as a Peacock, a picture
of dancers, a whole flower-vase with flowers made from various vegetables,
skewers and the like, that stood at the door to the restaurant welcoming
whoever came in . Indeed it left the onlooker with a sense of awe.
